Pulmonologist in Białystok — scope of consultations

Diagnosis and management of respiratory diseases in adults. The most common reasons for a visit are listed below — the content is informational.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

A chronic limitation of airflow, most often related to long-term exposure to tobacco smoke. The consultation covers assessment of breathlessness and cough, spirometry with a bronchodilator test, and a treatment and monitoring plan.

Bronchial asthma

A chronic inflammatory airway disease with reversible obstruction. Diagnosis is based on history, spirometry with a bronchodilator test and symptom-control assessment; the goal is selection and optimisation of inhaled therapy.

Sleep apnoea and sleep diagnostics

Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) presents with snoring, breathing pauses during sleep and daytime sleepiness. Diagnosis is enabled by polygraphy or polysomnography; the consultation covers risk assessment and qualification for further management.

Lung cancer — diagnostic consultation

A consultation for an abnormal imaging result (chest X-ray, CT), persistent cough, haemoptysis or nodular lesions. It includes interpretation of investigations and planning of further diagnostics in cooperation with a specialist centre.

Interstitial lung disease

A heterogeneous group of disorders with impaired gas exchange and possible fibrosis (incl. idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis). The consultation covers interpretation of high-resolution CT, functional tests and a diagnostic pathway.

Respiratory failure and home ventilation

Chronic respiratory failure requires blood-gas assessment and qualification for oxygen therapy or non-invasive ventilation (NIV). The consultation covers assessment of indications and a long-term care plan.
